Feminine Punk

Feminine Punk

For this look I wanted to create a sort of Penny Lane meets Taylor Momson persona, so I played with 70’s-esque items and punk-inspired accessories. Of course, I also wanted to put a little bit of me into this look, so I did add some girly characteristics, like the furry vest, floral patterns, and messy bun. For the color palette, I chose soft, feminine tones, like oranges, dark reds, pinks, and creamy, off-set whites and to balance everything off, I stuck with my neutrals, brown and black.

One of my favorite ways to style an outfit is to mix prints that are eye catching, yet somewhat similar, and then tie everything together with rockin’ accessories. It’s a simple concept and a really easy way to make a statement while simultaneously giving off a relaxed and put together vibe. You can find any these items by checking out our Polyvore post here.

Classy Grunge Look

Classy Grunge Look

Hiiiii!

My oh my, I’m feeling inspired and creative tonight! I hope you liked my recent Polyvore post of a look that has a little bit of class and a little bit of grunge. I think it’s a super tasteful look and I’m kind of obsessed with this particular style at the moment. I’ll be posting it a lot on my end.

Do bear with me!

Morgan’s Momentary Fashion Rant

So, while at work at the Lizard Thicket boutique the other day, I had a fashion revelation. I was helping tag and beeper some new clothes we had just got in and I started eyeing a couple of new crop tops and thought to myself, “Man, I wish I could pull that off.” But wait, why can’t I? I don’t think I’ve ever even tried one on to be honest. With my thick petite frame, a height of 5’3, and a far from perfect mid section, I never thought I could even attempt to look at myself in the mirror with a crop top on.

These assumptions starting flowing through my mind like poison and nearly stopped me from trying the damn thing on. Isn’t that funny? A simple piece of fabric with sleeves made me reconsider every thing I actually like about my own body. Since I started working at a clothing boutique, it’s so interesting to me seeing grown women turn down my simple suggestions to go out of their comfort zone simply because they never even tried to.

I think my biggest issue with fashion right now is that some people are so scared of delving into the unknown because their afraid that a simple piece of clothing will bring out every insecurity about their body that they ever stuffed away. Who cares if a crop top doesn’t work on your body or a pair of leather pants makes your butt look strange. Everyones bodies are so completely unique and beautiful! It’s okay if something looks amazing on someone else but doesn’t look good on you. Not everything is going to but that shouldn’t stop you from picking up those pants with the wild flower print or that shirt with a cat flat on the front of it. EMBRACE the idea and fact that you’re one of a kind.

So, I tried on that crop top after work that day. It didn’t work on me but it definitely didn’t stop me from trying on (and buying) an amazing pair of chunky, black high top sneakers with a studs and zippers I found at the mall. I wouldn’t have bought those shoes a year ago but I went strayed away from my usual style and now I feel like a Queen.

So, next time you go shopping, pick up ANYTHING & EVERYTHING you like. Pick up those leather pants, try on that wild shirt or those chunky high top sneakers. You never know what going out of your comfort zone may bring you to. It may just completely transform your style and walking out of the dressing room, you will feel like a Queen, too.

Celebrity Fashion Inspiration: Nicole Richie

the house of harlow headband, is on my wish list!

Nicole Camille Richie is American fashion designer, author, actress, and television personality. She’s come a long way from her days as Paris Hilton’s sidekick on “The Simple Life,” and her style has progressively made her one of the most prominent fashion icons, as she practically coined the term “boho-chic” as her own. Some of her signature pieces include maxi dresses, blazers, oversized sunglasses, and headbands/body jewelry.

How to dress like Nicole Richie:

1. Masculine + Feminine

One of the more consistent trends in Nicole Richie’s style is her tendency to mix masculine jackets & blazers with feminine pieces underneath.

On the left you can see that Nicole keeps her color palette simple using only blacks and whites, and by doing this, it really makes her red nails pop! So for this look I used a black baby doll dress with a white peter pan collar and paired it a floral blazer on a black base. Not everyone can wear heels on a daily basis, so for Nicole’s shoes I found a similar pair of pointed toe boots from Topshop. And of course, no Nicole Richie look is complete without her signature oversized sunglasses.

2. Tunics

Tunic tops & dresses are often a go-to choice for Nicole Richie and are a staple item in her wardrobe.

Pictured on the left, Nicole is wearing a long blue tunic dress decorated with white flowers and combined with gold and red accessories. For the inspired outfit, I picked a blue mini tunic dress with embroidered white lace on the edges and used similar accessories to wrap it all together. I chose cheetah print sandals with gold details because Nicole often uses cheetah print in her outfits. Finally, I added this red & gold ring to add some flair to the outfit just like Nicole did with her red bangle on the left.

3. Maxi, maxi, maxi!

Nicole Richie is queen of maxi dresses.

Nicole Richie’s bohemian style begins and ends with long, flowy maxi dresses. Nicole cleverly uses florals, abstract & graphic prints, and solid-colored dresses to create length and really make a statement. She was spotted on the left wearing an outfit that featured a color palette perfect for fall, so I imitated her style on the right with a similarly-colored cropped sweater. I mixed things up with a long floral maxi skirt and also included brown leather gladiator sandals, a brown leather cross body bag, and Rayban wayfarer sunglasses.

4. Hair & Make-Up

Beauty-wise, Nicole Richie is most often seen with loose, wavy hair, smoky eyes or cat-eyed eyeliner, and sun-kissed skin. You can get this look with liquid eyeliner, a curling iron, and a good bronzer.
